The Food for Life Cookbook
For the last several months I’ve been compiling recipes for a community cookbook. This is not your ordinary cookbook. We have been on a journey to healthier eating for the last several years and Amos has been encouraging me to share with others, so this dream has now become a reality! This project has been a joy to work on (but wow, did it really take this long?!) and I hope and pray many will be blessed with better health because of it. My own journey has yielded 55 lb lost and a much healthier pregnancy with Brielle. 🙂

Thank you for putting together this cookbook, it’s a blessing. Even for families not following the Trin Healthy Momma lifestyle this is a great cookbook. I have made several dishes and desserts that have been delishious and healthy for my family. My husbands favorite now is the Chili dog pie and raspberry cheesecake. I love that it gives options for making sweet mix and blaking blends, helps stretch the grocery budget. Deserves 5 stars!
This cookbook has been a real blessing to me. I have been enjoying the recipes and haven’t had one yet that we didn’t like. 5 stars
This cookbook is beautiful both the pictures and the recipes. I haven’t tried a recipe yet I don’t like. So much inspiration for healthy eating. And it’s also nice to have a wider variety of THM recipes. I highly recommend it.
I love this book..from the colourcoded categories and the pictorial index to the lovely pics of the food. It covers all aspects of cooking right down to preserving food. The food tastes as good as it looks in the pictures and a huge plus is that its spiral bound. This book definitely gets a 100% and I hope that there will be a book number two as mennonite ladies continue to convert their family favorites to thm. Thanks for all the hard work that went into it. Eating healthy happily!!
Absolutely love it!! The pictures are beautiful, the recipes outstanding and perfect for that healthy lifestyle without feeling like you are missing out on the good stuff!!
This cookbook has been my LIFESAVER since I just started the THM lifestyle! !!! Thank you for the beautiful layout and the pictures! !!!
Super cookbook. So blessed to have this with my collection. Thanks for taking the time to publish this cookbook. May God bless you for helping others in this uneven journey of life. 5 stars !!
This Cookbooked is incredible. I haven’t nearly made all the recipes, but the ones I have tried are so delicious. They taste so close to the unhealthy foods I was used to eating, but I can eat them without guilt. Thank you so much for putting this together Margaret! !
I absolutely love this cookbook. I enjoy all the delicious recipes in and I greatly appreciate that they all coincide with a healthy lifestyle. God bless you for being so diligent in getting it together.
Love the low carb book! I highly recommand it! Thank you for putting it together!
My favorite cookbook! I have made quite a few recipes, and they were all very good! There are pictures with alot of the recipes, and that makes it so fun to browse through. She also has a section in the front with pictures and explanations of items from her pantry. The book is spiral bound with a pink spiral! Soo cool! Very compatible with THM, and for any low sugar, low glycemic diet. She and all the ladies who contributed did an awesome job!
Thank You!
Thank you for all your hard work and making this cookbook. It is full of delicious , Mennonite, home cooking recipes! Sometimes there is are tips of what sides to serve with a main dish. It has beautiful full color photos and is spiral bound and easy to use. The recipes are excellent for the Trim Healthy Mama Lifestyle. 5 stars! Thanks again!
Wish there were more stars! This cookbook is amazing, one I don’t ever want to be without.
Everything we have made has been a hit so far and looking forward to making many more recipes.
May God bless you and your ministry.

I Love this cookbook! It’s a wonderful treasure for those looking for a healthy way of eating.
Is there a list anywhere of known errors in the cookbook? I’m confused by the list of ingredients for the Lemon Meringue Dessert on page 102. The recipe calls for 4 eggs, and 4 egg yolks for the filling but I’m skeptical that this is correct. Please advise.
Good morning!
We are hoping to have a pdf of corrections here on the website later today. The amount of eggs for the dessert is 8 total, 4 whole eggs and 4 yolks in the lemon part and the leftover 4 whites in the meringue. I’ve heard though that just using 4 total eggs works too, I just can’t vouch for that.:)
I love this cookbook!! The recipes are delicious and the pictures are beautiful. I enjoy just looking through the pages and reading it as much as I do cooking each item. The food is good, down to earth, cooking that uses common ingredients and are easy to prepare.
The book also has such a sweet spirit about it. Thank you for a wonderful resource!!
5 stars!!!!
spoke with Amos yesterday and he said I could go online today and get the corrections for the cookbook……can you tell me where I can find the corrections so I can print them out?
Thank you,
Melody
Good morning,
Yes, its there now. Go to the page where you bought the book and just above the price you should see it. Just a note in case it’s not updated, the correction for page 225 is actually suppose to be 255. The web designer has the revised version but it may not be there yet. Thanks
Love! Love!! My favorite thing is that there are so many traditional sweets made over so they are healthy for body and waistline I used the Trim Healthy Mama Plan to lose and maintain my weight. And my family loves to eat this way too. This cookbook is great inspiration to stay on-plan for life!!
I too, cannot say enough good about this cookbook. It is normal foods for normal lifestyles. Every cookbook should have a spiral binding and the fact that you’ve color coded the sections and have such beautiful pictures, are huge pluses for anyone trying the THM plan. I have tried many recipes and they have all been very good. Since I have gotten my book it has yet to make it to my “cookbook shelf”, I just use it that much. I particularly find the section, A Peek in my Pantry, such a blessing. Thank you so much for sharing where you have gotten all the items and how they work for you. Your sacrifice in putting this together has been a lifesaver for me! Thank You So Much!!!
I have a question about the turtle pecan bars on pg 138. I was assuming that these yellow recipes are S on THM, but after making and eating one I realized the oats are an E and all other stuff is S, so are they a crossover? Judy
Hi Judy,
The amount of oats in the recipe will not take you over the allowed carb limit in a fats meal. There are several recipes in the Pass the Butter section that use some oats. If you feel it hinders your weightloss you may want to stick to those that don’t use oats.:)
Thank you so much, I love this! Now I’ll always be ready for potlucks.
LOVE the book!! I have a question though….We follow THM and so I already have quite a bit of THM Baking Blend on hand. Will it substitute for your Homemade Baking Blend #1? Cup for cup? Thank you for your gift to the THM community!!!
Hi Shannon!
Thank you for your words of encouragement! Both recipes for baking blend are equal to THM Baking Blend. I measure loosely and level the top of the measuring cup. Depending on what I’m making I use a scant cup and add a little more if needed.
Love the cookbook! My family favorites already converted! I have one question. On p. 313 Canned Apricot Jam the last ingredient reads “2 xylitol or 3/4 cup Sweet Mix”. What unit of measurement for the xylitol?
His Blessings on your and yours!
That should read 2 CUPS of xylitol. Thanks!
Hello. I just ordered your book. Quick question: how can we know if the meals are an S, E, or FP?
Pass the Butter is THM S, Crucial Carbs is THM E and Here or There is THM Fuel Pull. Thank you for your order!
I don’t have the book…but I’m wondering where I might find a hard copy of it?
There may be a store near you that carries it, or you can always just purchase right through our website.
Hi, just got your book. I am following Trim Healthy Mama and look forward to trying there recipes. I am gluten free, what can I use to replace sprouted spelt and wheat flour in recipes, thank you
Does your cookbook use natural sweeteners like honey & coconut sugar? My body regents all of the on-plan sweeteners, & I was under the impression that you used honey & coconut sugar, but it doesn’t address this in the description of the book.
Hi Kelli,
Food for Life is THM inspired and so we have done our best to keep the ingredients used in the recipes on plan. The sweeteners you mentioned could easily be subbed in though.:)
My apologies for taking so long to reply!
Blessings on your healthy eating journey!
Margaret
Hi
I really do love the cookbook. I love the granola! Many of the recipes have been great! I did have problems with the no fail sprouted bread recipe on page 198 though. It wouldn’t rise very much and it was gooey inside even after 45 minutes of baking. Any tips?
The sprouted spelt recipe worked great!!
Thanks
Good evening Norma,
I’m so glad you are enjoying the cookbook! I thoroughly enjoyed the project and pray its a blessing to many! I was in touch with my friend that submitted the No Fail Sprouted Bread recipe you had a question about. She says, “Hi! I am sorry it did not turn out for you. Did you follow the shaping and rising directions carefully? It does not get two long rises like normal bread does. Immediately after making the dough, shape it and put it in pans and follow the rising and baking instructions. Another thing would be to try new yeast. Maybe it is too old and no longer works. Hope you are successful next time!”
Blessings!
Margaret
Thank you for the FOOD FOR LIFE Cookbook! I have tried several recipes already and we have enjoyed each one of them! It also has encouraged me to prepare healthier food for my family.!
Hi! I have had this cook book for a couple of years now. My family loves every recipe I have tried from it. We are hoping that you will make another one!!
I received your cook book for Christmas and it looks really good! But my question is why not use farm fresh milk instead of the other milks you suggest? I see there is a lot of other dairy being used in your recipes ☺
Thanks
Hi Helen 🙂
Milk, even farm fresh, is a combination on fats and carbs and therefore is not weight loss promoting. Food for Life is Trim Healthy Mama inspired and follows that eating plan. I would recommend their Trim Healthy Mama Plan book if you’d like to understand the science behind the whys and whats. If you would like to sub other milks with your fresh cows milk and still see the results you’re looking for, then go for it, but it’s not “on the plan”.:) Cream is only fat and no carbs so it fits well with the high fat/low carb meals (Pass the Butter section) and nut milks, such as almond and cashew are low fat and low carb and can be used in any meal setting.
Love your cookbook! Just made the No Bake Peanut Butter Bars (pg 134). The list of ingredients includes cream and salt, but the instructions don’t say where they are included. I omitted them and the bars are fine without, but I am wondering where their proper place is? Thank you!
